First Unitarian Church has had on going ties to many community service organizations, beginning in the 1970's with the Emergency Heating Assistance Program for the Elderly which is now administered by the Interfaith Outreach Association. We wanted a means to meet a wider ranges of needs throughout our community and so created Generosity Sunday. Once each month, on Generosity Sunday, we invite a speaker from a local community service organization to come to our service and tell the congregation about their service program. Then we donate the proceeds from the Sunday's plate collection to the service organization for their use.

The recent services organizations have included:

  • Miriam's House
  • CASA
  • Lynchburg Daily Bread
  • YWCA
  • Interfaith Outreach Association --Emergency Heating Assistance Program for the Elderly
