Director of Lifespan Education
The First Unitarian Church of Lynchburg is a small yet vital and growing congregation

There's never been a more exciting time to join the First Unitarian Church of Lynchburg. As our
congregation grows, so does the need for a Part-Time Director of Religious Lifespan
Education (20 hours/week).

Working with church stakeholders and reporting to the Minister, the Director of Religious
Lifespan Education will develop a learning environment that fosters the religious and spiritual
growth of children, youth, and adults within a Unitarian Universalist context.

Responsibilities and Duties

-Curriculum Development – Ability to select, shape, and implement curricula, including
lesson plans, materials, and learning resources for all age groups.

-Program Planning – Plan developmentally appropriate class grouping, while
maintaining balanced class sizes. Recruit, train, and manage teacher volunteers.

-Program Implementation – Oversee the Sunday morning Religious Education (RE)
program to ensure that the RE mission is being met within a welcoming and safe
environment. Work with the RE Committee, Adult Education Committee, and others to
plan and carry out special events, social projects, and extracurricular programs.
Conduct year-round registration of RE children and maintain appropriate records.

-Communications – Maintain professional communications with the parents, teachers,
the Board, and the congregation about the goals, needs, and activities of the Lifespan Faith Development (LFD) program

-Compliance – Review and oversee First Unitarian Church of Lynchburg's policies that
relate to LFD. Ensure that policies are followed by all groups at the church working with
minors. Ensure the safety of all Lifespan Education participants.

-Financial Management – Work with the RE Committee and the Finance Committee to
develop a budget to support the religious education and lifespan development
program. Keep accurate financial records of expenditures.

-Sunday Service Panning and Participation – Work with the Minister and Sunday
Services Committee to create multigenerational services, as well as resources for young
people who choose to stay in the service. Offer a "Time for All Ages" story as part of
Sunday Service several times a month.

-Other Duties as Assigned

Requirements

-Education and Training – A college degree is preferred. Credentialing as a religious
educator (or willingness to pursue credentialing which will be supported by the
congregation ) is a plus.

-Experience – Teaching or comparable related experience in education, child
development, or related fields is required.

-Technology – Experience with technology or willingness to learn how to leverage
online platforms to lead hybrid programming (both in-person and online.)

-An appreciation of our liberal religious tradition; knowledge of and/or interest in
Unitarian Universalism and its Principles and Sources.

-Proficiency and passion working with children, youth, and adults.

-Excellent organizational, administrative, and volunteer management skills.

-Effective oral and written communication skills.

-A strong sense of initiative and ability to work independently within a collaborative
environment.

-A commitment to being responsive and timely.

-The ability to work collaboratively with Minister, staff, committees, and church
members.
